May the promise found at Isaiah 25:8 bring some comfort in the death of Donald "Don" Leroy Loomis. "He will swallow up death forever. The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears from all faces." Just imagine, no more pain and grief due to the death of a love one! By means of the Kingdom that Jesus Christ taught us to pray for, God is going to remove sickness, old age and death from the human family.
Donald "Don" LeRoy Loomis, 77, of Sioux City entered the gates of Heaven Monday, January 1, 2018 following a brief illness. Celebration of life will be held Wednesday January 10, 2018, at 2:00 p.m.at the Dakota City Cemetery with Rev. Michael Ring officiating. Don was born June 18, 1940 in Sioux City IA, the son of Harold Loomis and Marie Dorothy (Carver) Davis. He spent the first 33 years of his life living at the Woodward Resource Center in Woodward IA. He moved to Des Moines and lived in the Drake University neighborhood where it was by chance he met the late Dr. R. Dean Wright - Drake University Sociology Professor and that was life changing for Don. Wright invited Don into his classes to speak about his life and students were amazed and inspired by his life story. Throughout the years he shared his life story with more than 4,000 students and health care workers.
Each year at Thanksgiving Don would open his home and made a large Thanksgiving meal (including his famous republican beans) for those who may have otherwise gone without. Don was a great friend to many.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Rodney, Raymond, Harold and Duane; and one sister, Annette (Davis) Bowman.
