Biography

Bernice M. Koeppe, 93, of Ponca, NE, formerly of South Sioux City, NE passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at the Elm's Health Care Center in Ponca, NE.

Services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, December 8, 2011 at Hope Lutheran Church in South Sioux City, NE with Pastor Randy Knuth officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in rural Martinsburg, NE. Arrangements are under the direction of Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca, NE.

Bernice was born in rural Waterbury, NE on December 4, 1917, the daughter of Max and Josephine (Winston) Delaney. She lived in the Waterbury area and graduated from Waterbury High School. She taught school in a country school near Ponca for 1 year. Ted and she eloped on December 25, 1939. He was the love of her life. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in December, 1989. Bernice worked for Aalfs in Sioux City, IA for 30 years before retiring.

Bernice was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in South Sioux City, NE.

She loved music, dancing, card games and family get-togethers. She enjoyed Husker football games, especially when Oklahoma and Nebraska played.

Survivors include one brother-in-law, Robert Mathiesen; many nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and nephews.

Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ted; sisters, Doris (James) McQuillan and Mary Francis Mathiesen; and brothers, Gene Delaney and Jerry (Sally) Delaney.
