John "Junior" McIntyre, 82, of Sioux City, Iowa passed away at his residence in Sioux City, IA, while surrounded by his family on Sunday, February 19, 2012.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 23, 2012 at the Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE with Rev. Randall Knuth officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, IA. Visitation will begin at the funeral home at 5:00 P.M. on Wednesday, February 22, 2012, with the family present at 6:30 P.M. and a time of reflection at 7:00 P.M. John was born in Wolbach, NE on October 15, 1929, the son of John and Inez (McElvie) McIntyre. He attended school in Wolbach. He married Ethel Virginia Criss in 1952. They had three children, Steven Eugene, Elizabeth and Kathleen. John married Lois Learing on December 10, 1955 in Luverne, MN. They had three children, Steven, Michael and Dwayne. John worked heavy construction and the couple traveled extensively with his job before settling in Sioux City, Iowa in 1976. He then owned and operated McIntyre Construction for 30 years.
John enjoyed garage sales, fishing, grocery shopping, spending time with his grandkids and shopping for antiques.
Survivors include his children, Steven (Cheryl) McIntyre of Glenwood, IA, Michael (Donna) McIntyre of South Sioux City, NE, Dwayne (Misty) McIntyre of Sioux City, IA, Elizabeth (Tony) Synovec of Norfolk, NE, and Kathleen (Tom) Hogancamp of South Sioux City, NE,; brothers and sisters, Margaret McVey of Raymond, WA, Tommy (Jane) McIntyre of Grand Island, NE, and Jennie (Leonard) Dooley of Lamar, CO; 23 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; numerous foster children, nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Lois; parents, Johnny and Inez; son, Steven Gates; great-grandson, Dillon Synovec; and granddaughter, Cori (CJ) Gates.
