Delores Pearl was born January 31, 1930 in Stratton, NE, the eldest daughter of Ross and Josephine Hawkins. She grew up on a farm near Trenton, NE attending country school with her four siblings. In grade school she would ride the family horse to school and walk the 3 miles home. She graduated from Trenton High School in 1947, after which she taught school for three years at area country schools.

Delores worked as a secretary at the Broyhill Company and later as a secretary at the Dakota City and Lewis and Clark Elementary schools. She loved the teachers and the children which led to her last job at Wee Care Preschool and Daycare as their cook, morning greeter and "Grandma" to all the students. Wayne and Delores enjoyed traveling and camping all over the United States in their RV and made many trips with their siblings and spouses to Hawaii, Alaska, and Canada. After Wayne's retirement, they continued their RV travels and wintered in Florida, Arizona and Texas with family and good friends.

Delores was a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church in South Sioux City. She was a Husker fan, a South Sioux City Cardinal fan, and loved playing cards with her card club ladies, being a member for over 50 years.
